Thanksgiving Hosting Tips

Nov 13, 2020

The holidays are officially upon us! Hosting Thanksgiving this year? Instead of stressing over the extra houseguests and food preparation, check out our tips to help you truly enjoy this Thanksgiving below.

Plan Your Menu

No one wants to be stuck at the grocery store Thanksgiving week picking over the sweet potatoes and rolls that happen to be left. To avoid this stress-inducing activity, plan your menu 2-3 weeks in advance. If you’re preparing all the food yourself, make a solid list of everything you need. Make sure to check your pantry for canned goods you may already have to put in those casseroles. If you’re delegating some dishes to family members, send them the recipe well in advance so they have plenty of time to shop, too.

Order Your Groceries

As a follow-up to planning your menu, consider ordering your groceries from your local grocery store if they offer that service. Many grocery stores do, and some even offer free pick-up services. By ordering your groceries, you’ll save yourself time and stress by not having to face the holiday crowds at the store.

Set A Budget

We all know the holidays can be an expensive time of year. By setting a budget for your Thanksgiving meal, you’re helping yourself have a more enjoyable time all season long. A good way to stick to your budget is to order your groceries online, or at least look up prices before you head to your grocery store. Don’t count out clipping coupons, either! Looking through sale papers before heading to the store is a great way to decide what store(s) you want to shop at for your Thanksgiving meal.

Go Potluck

If cooking is not something you love, keep the stress down this Thanksgiving by hosting a potluck-style meal. If you’re hosting, make a list of all dishes and ask your family and friends who are coming to sign up for something. Having a potluck meal not only takes the pressure off you, but it also lets everyone feel involved in the celebration.

Easy Clean-Up

After a heavy Thanksgiving meal, no one wants to be stuck at the sink cleaning dishes. This Thanksgiving, give yourself a break by using disposable plates, cups, napkins, and utensils. You can find a style that fits your aesthetic so that all you need to worry about after the meal is having a big trash bag handy!
